Code of Ethics





We the Mabuhay Guides, ambassadors for Philippine tourism, commit ourselves to the following code of ethics.

1. We shall be impartial, positive, and objective in presenting the Philippines.

2. We shall treat all peoples, cultures and the environment with respect.

3. We shall at all times show willingness to provide optimum support and quality service to all tourists, and will give tourists an opportunity to visit or enjoy a desired destination, according to a prescribed itinerary.

4. We shall in no way discriminate in rendering service to any tourist on any basis, e.g. color, gender, ethnicity, nationality; physical challenge, age, etc. We shall be sensitive to the values and interests of the tour groups and not share our personal views on sensitive topics as sex, religion and politics.

5. We shall protect the reputation of tourism in our country by making every endeavor to ensure that guided groups treat the environment, wildlife, sights and monuments, local communities, local customs and sensitivities, with the utmost respect and follow the rules and regulations at all sites and facilities where we take visitors.

6. We shall uphold the standards of professionalism in presentational skill, heritage and site interpretation and duty of care to the clients as expected of those holding the Mabuhay Guides badge. We subscribe to continuing professional development.

7. We shall show and follow the policies of the company that hires us. A guide does not accept or solicit a job from a client of the company that has hired him or her without the consent of the company that has hired him or her. Therefore, personal business cards should not be distributed for these purposes. All business-related communication with the client should be made through the company only.

8. We shall be punctual, reliable, honest, conscientious and tactful at all times.

9. We shall appear presentable at all times and ensure our dress is appropriate.

10. We shall promote camaraderie with other guides and respect each other’s clientele, ideas, style and commentaries.

11. We shall at no time be under the influence of alcohol or a narcotic substance, while on duty, and shall refrain from administering any medication to a client without proper medical consultation.

12. We shall in no way solicit, accept or maintain a personal relationship with a tour client.

13. We shall not solicit gratuities, shall not accept commissions nor abuse complimentary meal privileges offered by food establishments.

14. We shall maintain the highest standards of professional conduct and courtesy towards our clients and those we encounter during the course of an engagement in accordance both with our training and the qualities expected of those who are Mabuhay Guides.
